Introduction

The Equality Act came into force in 2010 bringing together a number of pieces of existing legislation. The Act covers discrimination because of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. These categories are known in the Act as ‘protected characteristics’. In order to comply with legislation, and help foster an environment of fairness and equality for all employees, it is important that your organisation and all of its employees are aware of the content
of, and their responsibilities under the Act. Our Equality and Diversity for Employees eLearning will help inform and protect your organisation by offering an introduction to the legislation and its implication in the workplace. Drawing on real-life case studies and scenarios, it will outline the protected characteristics, provide an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of all employees under the law.
