From time to time it is appropriate to take a fresh look at the arrangements for health and safety within an organisation. We can assist by working with your leadership team or a nominated team member by taking a high level view of the business and how your health and safety management system can best fit your organisation. A full report with recommendations can cover all of the key components including policy, organisation, planning, measurement, audit and review in accordance with HSG65 'Successful Health & Safety Management'.
A competent Adviser will identify the range of hazards associated with your activities and complete a risk assessment based on your current management arrangements and will recommend additional actions to further manage the risk to an acceptable level.
If required specific risk assessments can be undertaken for individual hazards or activities
These can include – Hazardous Substances (COSHH), Lone Working, Manual Handling, Young Persons, Maternity, Workstation and DSE or any other work activity requested.
Policies and Procedures
We can assist you with the development or updating of your health and safety policy and all supporting procedures and documents. These policies and procedures will be designed to reflect the nature of your organisation and its activities. We can also develop specific solutions to more complex activities such as electrical safety or control of contractors.
Multi Site Support - Compliancei
When an organisation has many premises and operations across a big geography, keeping an eye on what is happening can be challenging to say the least.
Compliancei from Praxis42 gives you peace of mind by providing an onsite presence that helps assess compliance and check that legal requirements are in place, while coaching and reminding those responsible to better understand what they need to do.
The service is completely bespoke to your organisations needs and further information can be found here.
Auditing is a process of checking that what is in place is meeting expectations. We can agree an audit protocol that meets your needs and includes a check of the management system as well as a physical site inspection. We can report findings and recommendations for the whole business or on a site by site basis.
Accident and Incident Investigation
When something goes wrong a thorough investigation can help identify the basic causes so that action can be taken to prevent a re-occurrence. Examples would be after a RIDDOR reportable accident, a significant incident or even a near miss. The investigation gathers relevant information for reference in the event of enforcement activity or a claim. Typically we would visit site and gather the facts, interview witnesses and produce a report with recommendations. If appropriate we will liaise with enforcement authorities.
Working Environment and Monitoring Surveys
We can provide a range of workplace surveys on request aimed at ensuring that you provide a safe and healthy work environment. These can include
- Air Sampling to measure air quality in the workplace

To assist organisations to understand where they stand on health and safety compliance we can undertake a Gap Analysis. This can be undertaken across an organisation or at a particular location(s) and will comprise a review of both the management system and a physical inspection. A report will make recommendations and allocate priorities that will help the organisation to meet legal requirements.
Fire Risk Assessment
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and The Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations require all non domestic premises to hold a current Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) which is regularly reviewed. One of our team of qualified and experienced Advisers will work with the 'Responsible Person' or 'Duty Holder' to consider the range of hazards associated with the location and activities as well as current management arrangements, preventative measures and emergency response. We will then produce your FRA with prioritised recommended actions to enable compliance. As part of the service we will provide Free RoSPA approved Fire Safety training to employees to help you meet the legal obligation to train.

A measure of the quality of your health and safety management system is to gain external accreditation in the form of OHSAS 18001. Working with you we can assist with documenting your processes and checking that your arrangements will meet external audit and review to gain this valuable benchmark standard.
One of our team of trained and experienced in-hose Advisers will visit each of your locations to conduct a comprehensive audit. The audit will be tailored to your needs and can cover health and safety, accessibility, asbestos condition, environment, fire, food hygiene, hazardous substances, statutory inspections and any other topic you require.
Whilst on site we can check management arrangements as well as undertaking a physical inspection and can feedback our findings with a prioritised Action Plan while we are on-site.
We can also provide periodic reports of findings across locations visited.
The audit findings, photographs and reports and any of your own relevant records that you need to have readily available can be stored on our online database. The database is secure and can be accessed by any persons that you nominate so that all information is instantly available and completely up to date.
Enforcement Support and Guidance
From time to time you may have a visit from an Enforcing Officer from the HSE, Fire Authority, Environment Agency or Local Authority. These officers have wide ranging powers and can provide you with useful advice and guidance, send you a letter explaining what is required of your organisation, issue either Improvement or Prohibition Notices or prompt prosecution. We can help you to prepare for a visit or assist you to implement any requirements of the Enforcing Authority.
We can undertake physical inspections of your workplace(s) providing reports with prioritised recommendations. If required we can provide a workplace risk assessment that helps you to meet the intent of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations.
Workstation and DSE Assessments
These ergonomic workstation assessments are aimed at employees who use computers or mobile devices, to ensure that employers are able to meet the requirements of the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations. These Regulations require that workstation assessments and users of DSE are assessed and the findings recorded.
We can support you by either providing one of our trained and experienced Advisers to visit your premises and undertake a face to face assessment or we can provide our online Workstation Assessment+ (WA+) solution which when linked with our training can enable the identification of specific or general issues, ensure timely interventions are taken and provide a full range of management reporting metrics.
We can also provide Occupational Health guidance from one of our OH Advisers to help deal with any individual cases where employees are reporting discomfort that might be related to their workstation arrangements or as part of a return to work programme.
