Legionella Awareness

Posted by Keith Paxman - Managing Director

The HSE recently reported that ‘The Water Management Society Rapid Microbiology Industry Liaison Group has produced a series of factsheets  – these guides are intended to give an unbiased and objective view on the latest commercially available rapid testing technologies.  These are brief, factual guides which were previously only available to WMSoc members, but have now been made freely available to download.’

The series currently consists of factsheets on:

  • IMS (Legipid)
  • MPN (Legiolert™)
  • MPN (Pseudalert™)
  • PCR (Biotecon Diagnostics)
  • PCR (Bio-Rad)

It is welcome news that these have now been made available free of charge. You can click on the link above to download the free factsheets or find more information on Legionnaires on the HSE website

At Praxis42 we have just launched our new Course on Legionella Awareness, the course aims to enable dutyholders and those responsible for implementing management controls to better understand the hazards, risks and compliance associated with water systems, plant and facilities. By the end of the course you will:

  • Appreciate how Legionella can affect health
  • Recognise the main ways Legionella can become airborne
  • Recognise the common control measures used to reduce the risk of Legionella including risk assessments
  • Appreciate the legal responsibilities of Dutyholders, Responsible Persons and your role in Legionella management and compliance
